AXA Winterthur – corporate health management – the little something for in-between times which has major benefits

The first service within the scope of workplace health promotion was offered at Winterthur Versicherung in 2000. The fit im job module ‘exercise & nutrition
management’ is now used at management level. It has gradually been optimised with the use of in-house trainers and is today a permanent and popular component of
the management seminar programme.

Winterthur becomes AXA Winterthur
Winterthur management approved the resources for the specialist department “Health Management”, led by Regula Keller, a WHP expert, before the sale of Winterthur
Versicherungen to the AXA Group. On 1 May 2006 she started to set up holistic
health management at AXA Winterthur.
The first healthReport® survey, which AXA Winterthur carried out with fit im job within
the scope of a pilot project, confirmed that numerous employees were suffering
from problems which were related to working with computers, to the increase of requirements and challenges in the services sector, resulting in stress.

Based on the results of the survey, AXA Winterthur decided to intervene at various levels and commissioned fit im job with:

implementation of a health portal – fitimjob-online®

running a set of team workshops -  «fit & well» (fitimjob5)

running a second health survey as to evaluate sustainability -  healthReport®

In addition, the health management department of AXA Winterthur held various
seminars on the topics of “work and health” and “presence management”.

The survey in 2007
The results reflected classical health issues when it comes to working with computers, such as neck and shoulder tension, back pain or burning eyes. Stress-related symptoms such as inner restlessness, nervousness, sleep disorders, irritability and tiredness clearly
correlated with the workload which was felt to be high.

The second survey in 2008
1 1/2 years after the implementation of the interventions mentioned above, the impact of
all interventions was evaluated with the same ‘healthReport®’. And this second survey
revealed sensational results such as up to 40% less physical complaints. At the same time, the indicators for burnout risks had also been lowered. The values were now in line with the usual average for larger Swiss service companies and also corresponded with national averages in general.
